Osinde’s mutilated body was recovered from River Kuja three days after he was reported missing but identity remained unknown until kin verified it
The decomposing body of Tom Osinde, a former National Treasury employee who had been missing for days, was discovered in the Kuja River in Migori County. Police confirmed that Mr Osinde’s body was recovered on June 22, 2023, three days after he was reported missing. However, the officials at the mortuary had been unaware of his identity upon receiving the body.
Enock Nemwel Osinde, Osinde’s younger brother, verified that the body found indeed belonged to the former civil servant.
“Unfortunately, the outcome isn’t the one we anticipated. Tom was killed, and his body was found in Migori County. Please continue praying for us as we try to come to terms with this devastating loss,” said Nemwel.
Law enforcement officers who retrieved the body noted the presence of polythene bags near the deceased, leading the investigating detective to suspect that they might have been used to strangle Osinde.
On Wednesday, authorities apprehended two suspects in connection with the disappearance of Osinde. Detectives revealed that the detained individuals were employees at a farm located in Trans Mara West, Narok County, where Osinde’s vehicle was ultimately discovered.
The arrest of one of the suspects occurred after eyewitnesses reported observing him driving Osinde’s black Toyota Land Cruiser in Kisii County, two days before the abandoned vehicle was found in Trans Mara West, Narok County. The sudden return of this individual to his village in Kisii County, three years after fleeing, took the local residents by surprise. They also informed the police they had noticed household items inside the vehicle.
According to the authorities, the apprehended suspect claimed that Osinde had entrusted him with delivering an undisclosed sum of money to a woman in Kericho. Subsequently, the suspect took the vehicle to a car wash before abandoning it in Kilgoris. When the police located the car, it had been stripped of registration plates, a battery, and a radio.
Investigation on this matter are ongoing.
