Cristiano Ronaldo has sparked speculation about his future in professional football following a cryptic social media post. After concluding the season with Saudi club Al-Nassr, the striker posted an image in club attire captioned: “This chapter is over. The story? Still being written. Grateful to all.”
The 40-year-old striker, who joined Al-Nassr in 2023, had a contract with the Saudi club set to expire this summer, on 30 June. Despite his impressive tally of 25 league goals this season, Al-Nassr finished third in the league behind Al-Ittihad and Al-Hilal. The team failed to secure a spot in the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino recently mentioned that discussions are ongoing about Ronaldo potentially participating in the expanded Club World Cup.
In a video stream with IShowSpeed, a keen admirer of Ronaldo, he said, “Cristiano Ronaldo might play in the Club World Cup. There are discussions with some clubs, so if any club is watching and is interested in hiring Ronaldo for the Club World Cup, who knows.”
While rumours have linked Ronaldo to various clubs, including a possible reunion with Lionel Messi at Inter Miami, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has dismissed these claims, stating, “There’s absolutely nothing to those stories.”
Ronaldo joined the Saudi side at the start of 2023 after his second spell at Manchester United, where he was excluded from the squad following a public fallout with Erik ten Hag.
Despite posting excellent numbers since moving to Saudi Arabia, Ronaldo has yet to win any trophies with the club. He has scored 99 goals in 111 appearances but has no silverware to show for his efforts. The Portuguese player may be looking for new pastures.
Fans of the Real Madrid and Manchester United legend will undoubtedly be relieved to hear that, although he appears set to leave the Saudi Arabian club, it does not look like Ronaldo will be hanging up his boots this summer.
