Julius Ogamba, the Cabinet Secretary (CS) for Education, on Monday morning, October 27, 2025, officially flagged off this year’s Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) in Kericho County.
The event marked the start of a week-long national exercise for more than 2.4 million students.
Ogamba reaffirmed that the Ministry of Education is fully prepared and anticipates a 100% transition of students to the next grades.
“The piloting was done in July to determine how to select schools and pathways, and now the students are undertaking their examinations. We need everyone on board to ensure a smooth transition,” said Ogamba.
The CS also issued a stern warning to candidates against engaging in any form of malpractice during the examinations. “If you are caught engaging in malpractice or irregularities, the law will intervene, and you will be prosecuted,” he added.
The Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Julius Bitok, confirmed that the ministry has disbursed all the necessary funds to ensure smooth examination operations. He also assured that there is adequate space for student transition into senior schools for KJSEA candidates.
Ogamba also launched the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) and Kenya Pre-Vocational Level Education Assessment (KIPLEA) alongside KPSEA and KJSEA. PS Bitok noted that 1,298,089 and 1,130,669 students will sit for KPSEA and KJSEA, respectively.
He emphasized that this year’s Grade 9 candidates are the first to sit for the exams under the Competency-Based Curriculum, and all stakeholders are expected to participate in ensuring smooth administration.
“For KJSEA, it is the first time this exam is being conducted, and I want to assure the country that all systems are involved. We call upon all stakeholders, including invigilators, center managers, and teachers, to administer these examinations professionally,” said Bitok.
The candidates are expected to complete their examinations in three days, after which examiners will mark the papers and release the results.
