The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has ruled out any foul play in the Naivasha accident that claimed the life of former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo earlier this month.
In a statement on Monday, the DCI sought to dispel rumours suggesting the incident was anything other than a normal traffic accident, confirming no foul play was involved.
“Based on the evidence gathered and analysed to date, the incident appears to be a road traffic accident, with no indications of foul play,” the DCI said, adding that investigations are still ongoing.
The agency said that after completing the remaining investigations, the case file will be sent to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for guidance, which could include pursuing criminal charges against the PSV driver based on the evidence gathered.
Jirongo died in the early hours of 13 December 2025 after his Mercedes-Benz collided with a Climax Company bus at Karai in Naivasha.
CCTV footage from the nearby Eagol Petrol Station shows that at 2:18:40 am, Jirongo drove alone into the station from Nairobi but did not stop to refuel.
Less than half a minute later, his car briefly paused at the station’s exit before making a right turn back towards Nairobi at 2:19:19 am. Just six seconds later, at 2:19:25 am, the PSV bus collided with his vehicle.
He was pronounced dead from injuries consistent with a high-impact collision.
