Former Cabinet Secretary Raphael Tuju was arrested by detectives after authorities concluded that his widely reported disappearance had been staged, bringing a dramatic twist to a case that had captured national attention.
The incident began when Tuju was reported missing over the weekend, sparking fear among his family members, political allies, and members of the public. Reports indicated that Tuju had disappeared while traveling to a scheduled radio interview, leading to speculation that he had been abducted.
Concern grew quickly as supporters and political leaders demanded answers regarding his safety. Among those who raised alarm was Kalonzo Musyoka, who expressed fears that an abduction squad could have been responsible for the disappearance.
However, the situation took a different turn when detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations launched a detailed investigation into the matter. The investigation was led by DCI Director Mohamed Amin, who later addressed the media to explain the findings.
According to Amin, investigators traced Tuju’s movements from the time he was reported missing and discovered that he had remained within his residence in Karen throughout the entire period. He explained that officers became suspicious after they were denied access to Tuju’s home during the early stages of the investigation.
Police officers later secured a court order to search the property as part of their inquiries. The home was temporarily secured to prevent interference with evidence while detectives gathered information about Tuju’s whereabouts.
Speaking to journalists, Amin dismissed the disappearance claims and accused Tuju of misleading the public and law enforcement officers.
“When confronted with the reality that police were closing in on the truth and that his deception could no longer be sustained, Mr. Tuju chose to resurface,” said Mohamed Amin.
