Sammy Waweru Kamau of Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has stormed to victory in Ol Kalou, clinching the MP seat with 35,440 votes and securing the party its first parliamentary seat in a landmark win.
Kamau emerged victorious in a by-election held on Thursday to fill the vacancy left by former MP David Kiaraho, who died in March.
He comfortably defeated United Democratic Alliance (UDA)’s Samuel Muchina Nyaga, who garnered 5,450 votes, in a decisive contest that saw voters hand the DCP candidate a clear mandate to represent Ol Kalou.
Speaking after he was declared the winner on Friday morning, Kamau described his victory as a triumph of faith, resilience and the will of the people, saying his journey to Parliament had been achieved against the odds.
“I wish to thank God for this moment because without Him, I wouldn’t be standing here. I am here because God made it possible for me to become the Member of Parliament against all odds,” Kamau said.

The victory was celebrated by DCP leader and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who hailed Kamau’s win as a historic milestone for the party.
“Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency. You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people,” Gachagua said.
Gachagua thanked Ol Kalou residents for electing what he described as DCP’s first National Assembly member, praising them for “refusing to sell your birthright” and resisting what he termed deception through development promises.
He also credited voters with protecting the electoral process despite claims of intimidation during the campaign.
“Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas,” he said.
Gachagua said Kamau’s election would strengthen his political movement.
“I have been struggling with 18 soldiers but with great results; now I have 19. Things will be much better.”
The DCP leader also announced plans to tour all five Ol Kalou wards on Friday to thank voters personally, saying the visit followed a request from residents.
