Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accompanied by his wife Dorcas and a delegation of key allies from the Mt Kenya region, arrived in Tseikuru shortly after 11 a.m. on Thursday for crucial talks aimed at uniting the opposition and charting a clear path ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The high-stakes meeting was held at the Tseikuru home of Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Insiders describe the visit as a high-stakes strategy session to strike a top-level deal ahead of the 2027 general elections. The opposition leaders met in Tseikuru following their last meeting hosted by Gachagua at his Wamunyoro home in Nyeri.
Among those present were People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, Democratic Party leader Justin Muturi, and former Cabinet Minister Mukhisa Kituyi.
Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka represented former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, who is currently out of the country.
Key opposition figures face increasing pressure to rally support ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the coalition works to determine its presidential candidate.
This meeting comes a week after President Ruto met with over 1,600 Ukambani leaders at State House, where they discussed transformative development projects planned for the region. Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi described the Tseikuru meeting as a game-changing consultative forum for opposition leaders seeking to unseat President Ruto.
