Gideon Moi has officially secured the Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket for the upcoming Baringo senatorial by-election, scheduled for 27th November 2025.
The announcement was made by KANU’s Communications Director, Manasse Nyainda, who stated that Moi’s nomination followed extensive consultations, deliberations, and consensus within the party and among stakeholders in Baringo County.
“The Kenya African National Union wishes to formally announce that our national chairperson, Hon. Gideon Moi, has been nominated as the party’s candidate for the forthcoming Baringo senatorial seat,” said Nyainda.
KANU emphasized that Moi’s candidacy reflects the party’s commitment to experienced, visionary, and people-centered leadership. In his acceptance, Moi expressed gratitude to party members and the people of Baringo for their continued support.
The by-election was necessitated by the death of Senator William Cheptumo in February 2025 while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital. Moi previously served as Baringo Senator from 2013 to 2022, before being succeeded by the late Cheptumo.
Moi will face off against Vincent Kiprono of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), as well as independent candidates Daisy Jeptoo and Benjamin Chebon.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), conducting its first by-election under its new leadership, has pledged to oversee a free and fair process. The by-election is seen as an early indicator of voter sentiment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
KANU has called on residents of Baringo and its supporters to rally behind Moi’s bid, citing his commitment to an inclusive, accountable, and service-oriented leadership.
