Former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi has claimed that his security was withdrawn on Monday as an attempt to intimidate him due to his criticism of President Ruto’s government.
Speaking to the press on Tuesday, April 8, Mr Muturi revealed that his security detail had been removed the previous evening at around 7:30 p.m. He explained that two police officers, assigned to him due to his former role as Speaker of the National Assembly, were instructed not to report for duty.
“My security detail was withdrawn last night at around 7:30 p.m. Two police officers who were attached to me by virtue of my position as former Speaker of the National Assembly were told not to report on duty today,” Mr Muturi said.
The former CS suggested that the decision was linked to his ongoing criticism of the government, claiming the officers were told their services were no longer needed because he was “fighting the government.”
Since his dismissal from the Cabinet on March 26, Mr Muturi has been a strong critic of President Ruto, particularly over the issue of abductions during anti-government protests. His son was also among those abducted and later released, which deepened his opposition to the administration.
Mr Muturi has further accused the President of engaging in corrupt dealings, most recently alleging an attempt to coerce him into signing a Sh129 billion deal with Russian oligarchs.
“I land in Dubai, and Ruto is calling me. ‘Those Russians are in Dubai; they are waiting for you to sign the document. Your staff has already worked on it; you just need to sign,’ Mr Muturi said in a recent interview with NTV.”
Despite the withdrawal of his security, the former CS insisted he would not be intimidated. “If this is another attempt to intimidate me, they have dialled yet another wrong number,” he added.
Mr Muturi further downplayed the significance of the loss of security, noting that many Kenyans live without government protection. “I said it is okay because there are very many Kenyans without government security, and therefore, it is not something that should worry somebody,” he added.
