Sunday marked the end of the English Premier League 2024/2025 season. The campaign was an emotional roller coaster across all twenty clubs. Liverpool eventually emerged victorious under new manager Arne Slot, after parting ways with Jurgen Klopp at the end of last season.
Mohamed Salah had a magnificent season, completing an unprecedented hat-trick by becoming the first player in history to win the Golden Boot, Playmaker, and EA SPORTS Player of the Season awards. Salah won the Golden Boot for the fourth time, equalling Arsenal legend Thierry Henry’s record for the most Golden Boots.
Second-place Arsenal ended the season trophyless despite being favourites at the beginning of the campaign. However, they finished the league in style with a win at St Mary’s Stadium against Southampton.
Third-place Manchester City took a major hit this season when Rodri, a Ballon d’Or winner, was injured at the beginning of the campaign. Losing the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace meant they finished the season without a trophy for the first time since 2017.
Under new ownership and with questionable spending in the transfer window, Chelsea finished the season in fourth place. Their 1-0 victory at the City Ground sealed their Champions League spot. Chelsea still has a UEFA Conference League final to play on Wednesday.
Securing Champions League football was also a huge moment for Newcastle, who defeated EPL champions Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup. Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, who had promising seasons, qualified for the Europa League and UEFA Europa Conference League respectively.
Tottenham Hotspur also had a notable season, earning a place in the Champions League next season thanks to their crucial win against Manchester United in the Europa League final at Bilbao.
Brighton, Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Everton, West Ham, Manchester United, and Wolverhampton Wanderers all finished between 8th and 16th place. Leicester, Ipswich, and Southampton were relegated.
In the grand scheme, Manchester United had the most underwhelming performance, finishing 15th in the league and escaping relegation by a whisker. They also lost a European final after an unbeaten run. In the EPL, they recorded 11 wins, 9 draws, and 18 losses.
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim made an end-of-season speech following Sunday’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa at Old Trafford. After apologising, he said, “Today, after this disastrous season, I want to tell you the good days are coming… Thank you very much, see you next season.”
