The National Youth Service (NYS) has unveiled a new internship initiative aimed at empowering female graduates living with disabilities (PWDs), with a focus on equipping them for careers in sectors traditionally dominated by men.
In a notice issued on Tuesday, the NYS announced that the six-month programme will offer hands-on experience in areas including business management, driving, logistics and supply chain, mechanics, and information communication technology (ICT).
According to NYS, the programme is designed not only to build skills but also to create employment pathways for its female alumni. A key feature of the internship is a monthly stipend of Sh15,000, with potential for job absorption based on performance.
“Our client has been at the forefront in the mentorship of women, providing them with the guidance, knowledge, and opportunities they need to excel in a traditionally male-dominated field of transport and logistics,” read part of the statement from the NYS.
The internship is open to female NYS graduates who have diplomas, craft or artisan certificates, or trade test papers in relevant areas. Applicants should also have good grades, pay attention to detail, and be able to work well alone or with others.
Graduates in Automotive Engineering with a focus on heavy commercial vehicles will have an added advantage for the mechanics placement.
The programme has been hailed for its inclusive approach, with the NYS stating that it seeks to create more accessible employment opportunities for young women with disabilities.
To apply, candidates are required to submit their details through the official NYS application portal at https://forms.gle/FXxWVCRMwn5zchie6. The deadline for application is September 22, 2025.
