Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has declared a vacancy in the seat held by nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, effective from May 21, 2025.
The announcement was made through a gazette notice issued on Wednesday, following Orwoba’s expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) over allegations of gross misconduct and breaches of the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar confirmed the decision in a press statement on Monday, stating that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had unanimously approved the expulsion after adopting the recommendations of the Disciplinary Committee.
Orwoba was found culpable of misconduct, including issuing public statements that allegedly damaged the party’s reputation and repeatedly failing to respond to disciplinary summons.
Additionally, the party has withdrawn its sponsorship of Orwoba to the Senate and has nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi, from Kimilili in Bungoma County, as her replacement.
Orwoba’s legal challenge against the expulsion was dismissed by the High Court in Nairobi, with Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruling that the application was incompetent.
