Gospel artist Reuben Kigame, who recently announced his bid for the presidency in 2027, has filed a petition seeking the prosecution of top security officials over the deaths of more than 100 Gen Z protesters.
In the petition filed at the Milimani High Court on Thursday, Kigame is calling for the prosecution of Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, the Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Director of DCI Amin Mohamed, and the Director of NIS Noordin Haji for the widespread killings, abductions, and torture of protesters over the past two years.
“At Milimani Law Courts with my lawyer Gitobu Imanyara and comrade Alamin Kimathi earlier this morning to file a petition against Kenya’s top security bosses for their chain of command and callous detachment in the killing of over 100 citizens between 2024 and 2025,” said Kigame on X.
Through his lawyer Imanyara, Kigame stated that he had issued a notice to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and the Attorney General. He accused the DPP of failing to act despite being aware of the crimes.
“The inaction by the 1st Respondent (DPP) signifies that he has taken a decision on the report and has declined to institute or conduct the criminal proceedings probably out of fear, favour, or political consideration,” he said.
Due to the lack of action from the DPP, Kigame asked the court to grant him permission to privately prosecute the Interior CS, the IG, and senior DCI and NIS officials.

In the petition, figures cited from the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) stated that at least 39 people were killed and 361 were injured during the June 2024 anti-finance bill protests.
He also referenced cases such as the deaths of Albert Ojwang and Boniface Kariuki during the 2025 protests, which he said demonstrated the excessive use of force by security agencies.
Kigame added that he was acting on behalf of the victims and their families, calling the petition a first step toward accountability. “I am doing this on behalf of all parents whose children have been killed. No office or title grants immunity for such atrocities,” he said.
He further noted that he intends to escalate the case to the International Criminal Court if local remedies failed. “I intend to escalate the matter right to the @IntlCrimCourt — so help me God,” he declared.
