President William Ruto has appointed 20 new judges to the High Court of Kenya, following recommendations by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Exercising his authority under Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution, President Ruto made the appointments in accordance with the suggestions put forth by the JSC.
The JSC forwarded the names of the judges to the President last week, after conducting interviews with 95 applicants, resulting in the formal announcement of their appointments in a gazette notice dated May 9.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by Article 166 (1) (b) of the Constitution of Kenya, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, appoint… to be Judges of the High Court of Kenya,” President Ruto said.
The list of newly appointed judges includes:

3. Benjamin Mwikya Musyoka
4. John Lolwatan Tamar
5. Francis Weche Andayi
6. Andrew Bahati Mwamuye
7. Julius Kipkosgei Ng’arng’ar
8. Wendy Kagendo Micheni
9. Emily Onyando Ominde
10. Helene Rafaela Namisi
11. Alexander Muasya Muteti
12. Julius Mukut Nangea
13. Benjamin Kimani Njoroge
14. Caroline Jepyegen Kendagor
15. Stephen Nzisi Mbungi
16. Linus Poghon Kassan
17. Noel Onditi Adagi Inziani
18. Tabitha Ouya Wanyama
19. Rhoda Cherotich Ruto
20. Joe Omido Mkutu
The appointment of judges is expected to adhere to constitutional imperatives concerning merit, gender equality, regional/ethnic representation, and affirmative action.

Starting June 3, the JSC will initiate interviews to fill 11 positions advertised for Court of Appeal judges.
