It’s a year since that historic day when over 14 million Kenyans elected leaders of their choice. Now, we need to ask ourselves real hard questions regarding the choices that we made, and be true to the fact we have to endure with our decision for the next five years. I feel we were collectively duped.
In my view, leaders can be categorised into two: Transactional and transformational. Transactional leadership is based on the premise that both the leader and the follower are coming together to exchange one thing for another. Its often driven by ethnicity.
On the other hand, transformative leadership looks for potential motives in followers, seek to satisfy higher needs. The result of transformational leadership is a relationship that may convert leaders into moral agents.
So, we made a choice, and yes we have to live with it for the next five years. But we shall be guilty of collective ignorance if we do not evaluate the value of what we have, and the price that we paid. French Philosopher, Bertrand de Jouvenel said that a society of sheep must in time beget a government of wolves.
