The National Assembly Committee on Appointments has shot down the nomination of Stella Lang’at as Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, Arts, and Heritage.
This was declared on Wednesday, August 7, by Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, who added that the committee passed 19 of the 20 nominees sent by the President.
The decision comes days after the Cabinet Secretary nominees were vetted by the Committee on Appointments.
Consequently, Prof. Kindiki Kithure has been appointed as Cabinet Secretary for Interior, while Dr. Deborah Barasa will take over the Health docket. Alice Wahome will lead the Lands ministry, with Julius Ogamba taking the Education docket.
Soipan Tuya has been approved for appointment as Defence Cabinet Secreatry, while Andrew Karanja shall head the Agriculture ministry.
Other approvals include Aden Duale as Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Eric Mureithi Mugaa for Water, and Davis Chirchir for Roads. Margaret Nyambura will head the ICT sector, John Mbadi will be in charge of the National Treasury, and Salim Mvurya is appointed to Trade.
Rebecca Miano will preside over Tourism, Opiyo Wandayi over Energy, Kipchumba Murkomen over Youth Affairs, Wycliffe Oparanya over Cooperatives, Hassan Joho over Mining, Alfred Mutua over Labour and Social Protection, Wycliffe Oparanya over Cooperatives, and Justin Muturi over Public Service.
The fate of Ms Lang’at now rests on the National Assembly, which is either to approve her appointment or uphold the committee’s recommendation.
