The Kenyan and Australian governments have announced plans to partner and improve the quality of education in the country by reviewing visa requirements for Kenyan students wishing to study in Australia.
Australian High Commissioner to Kenya, Luke Williams, said that the review of the requirements will help lessen the tedious application process and make it easier to access Australia for studies.
Williams said that his government had already started the process of reworking the visa application process, which he says will also benefit students from other jurisdictions across the globe.
The new plan, Williams said, seeks to make the application easier and seamless for students. He made the statements during a visit to the office of Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula.
In the recent past, Australia has become a favorable destination for self-sponsored Kenyan students seeking affordable and quality university education.
The Australian government currently offers Masters programmes scholarships and short courses to Kenya public servants.
“Kenya and Australia are friendly nations who need to advance their engagements in ensuring strategic engagement for mutual benefits of the two countries,” said Williams.
Speaker Wetang’ula, while acknowledging the visit by the envoy, said that the initiative was timely as it came at the time the country is settling down from an election period with her citizenry looking forward to a better economy.
“We have an active Parliamentary Friendship Group that needs activation for regular engagements with counterparts in the Australian Parliament for peer exchange and knowledge sharing,” said Speaker Wetang’ula.
Wetang’ula noted that there was advance collaboration in education scholarships as well as knowledge exchange in the mining sector.
He appreciated the efforts made by the Australian Government to review student Visa requirements saying that it was a great stride in supporting knowledge exchange and development.
He emphasized on the need to explore more areas of partnership between the two countries including tourism, trade, agriculture, sports security, mining among other areas of interest between the two countries.
