Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has refuted claims that President William Ruto intends to rig the 2027 General Election, dismissing them as unfounded and politically motivated.
Speaking during a Special Programmes event in Taita Taveta County, Ruku urged leaders to avoid misleading the public and instead acknowledge the progress made by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Ruku asserted that President Ruto’s re-election will depend on a strong record of service delivery, not manipulation. He stated that the projects being implemented are already having a real impact on people’s lives in under two years.
The Cabinet Secretary cited key government development initiatives in Taita Taveta County, where over Sh3 billion has been invested across various sectors. In infrastructure, projects such as the construction of the 70-kilometre Elasit–Njukini–Taveta Road and the tarmacking of the 58-kilometre Mtomwagodi–Bare–Idage–Bura Road aim to improve connectivity and open up new market access in the region.
Ruku mentioned that the Affordable Housing Programme has received Sh2 billion in funding, which is addressing housing shortages and creating jobs for the youth. The education sector has also seen growth, with Sh750 million allocated to Taita Taveta University for the construction of 1,700 hostel units to improve student accommodation. Additionally, 58 new classrooms have been built across 68 schools in Mwatate, supporting the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
In rural areas, Sh200 million has been allocated to 15 new electrification projects, along with Sh60 million for 10 additional projects under the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC). These initiatives are expected to enhance connectivity and improve living standards in rural communities.
Ruku also highlighted the nearly completed Matunge Market in Mwatate, which is now 90 percent complete. He said it exemplifies the government’s commitment to modernizing trading centers and promoting local commerce. This project is part of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), which aims to support communities through sustainable development.
Ruku concluded that the Kenya Kwanza government is committed to delivering tangible development to the people—and that this, not misinformation, will form the foundation of their success.
“The Kenya Kwanza government is focused on delivering meaningful development to the people. That will be the basis of our victory, not propaganda,” Ruku said.
