Two officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been arrested in Kipkelion, Kericho County, after allegedly demanding half a million shillings from a complainant in exchange for terminating a murder case against him.
The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) identified the two as Corporal Wesley Korir and Corporal Christopher Maina, both attached to the DCI’s Kipkelion Sub-County offices.
According to the anti-graft agency, the pair allegedly solicited Sh500,000 from the complainant with a promise that the murder case facing him would be dropped.
EACC detectives mounted an operation following preliminary investigations into the allegations, arresting the two officers on Thursday, September 10, as they were allegedly receiving Sh120,000, described as a down payment toward the full amount demanded.
Korir and Maina were subsequently processed at the EACC’s South Rift Regional Office before being released on cash bail of Sh30,000 each, pending the completion of investigations.
Neither officer has been charged at this stage, and the allegations against them remain subject to further investigation and any resulting court proceedings. The EACC said its investigations into the matter were ongoing, and that any further action would be guided by their outcome.
The arrests came just a day after the EACC carried out a separate anti-corruption operation elsewhere in the country, arresting two Judiciary staff members in Eldoret and Nakuru on September 9 over alleged bribes linked to court services, pointing to a broader push by the agency against corruption within public institutions around the same period.
Reiterating its wider mandate, the EACC said it remains committed to combating corruption across all sectors and urged members of the public to continue reporting bribery and other corrupt conduct through its official reporting channels.
