The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya has warned the public about fake social media accounts bearing the names of the former president and his family.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Kanze Dena Mararo, the Office said it uses only two official social media accounts. The Facebook page titled ‘Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya’ and the X page titled ‘Office of the 4th President of Kenya’ both use the handle @4thPresidentKE.
“The Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya (H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta) wishes to advise the public that there are only two official social media accounts used by the Office.
Neither the former President nor the former First Lady have any personal social media accounts. The children also do not have any personal accounts,” the statement read.
The Office urged the public to be cautious and ignore any social media pages, profiles or accounts purporting to represent or speak on behalf of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, former First Lady Margaret Kenyatta or their children.
“The public are therefore advised to be cautious and ignore any social media accounts, pages or profiles that pretend to represent or speak on behalf of H.E. Uhuru Kenyatta, H.E. Margaret Kenyatta or their children. The only official accounts are those listed above,” the statement added.
The statement was issued by the Office, which is located on Dennis Pritt Road in Nairobi. The warning comes amid growing concerns about fake accounts sharing information and statements purportedly on behalf of the former First Family.
The Office urged Kenyans to rely only on its official social media accounts for authentic information about the former Head of State and his engagements.
