Understanding entry requirements for a Bachelor of Law (LL.B.) is essential for students aiming at pursuing a career in law.

The Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) is an academic degree achieved for undergraduate studies in Law Sciences. The abbreviation LL.B. stands for Legum Baccalaureus, where LL. is the Latin abbreviation for laws.

Bachelor of Law Entry Requirements

Most universities require applicants to have completed their high school education with strong grades:

  1. A minimum mean Grade of C+ (Plus) at KCSE and a minimum grade B (Plain) in English or Kiswahili.
  2. Three (3) principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting, with an equivalent of a B Plain in English; OR
  3. Principal passes in the Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) or its equivalent obtained at different sittings, provided that the principals are of Grade C or higher; with an equivalent of a B Plain in English Language; OR
  4. An undergraduate degree in any appropriate field other than law and a minimum of C+ (plus) in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Examination or its equivalent with a minimum of grade B (plain) in English Language; OR
  5. A diploma in law of a legal education institution accredited by the Council of Legal Education, with at least a Credit pass or higher.

The Application Process

The application process for law schools in Kenya generally requires submission of several documents and meeting specific academic qualifications. Commonly, applicants need to provide original and photocopied academic certificates, passport-sized photos, a national ID, passport, or birth certificate, and sometimes a school leaving certificate.

Most institutions also require payment of non-refundable application or interview fees. For admission, a minimum grade in secondary examinations, relevant diplomas, or degrees from recognized institutions are typically necessary.

Additionally, applicants often need to submit their applications either through online portals or directly at the university offices, and they may have to provide additional supporting documents such as academic transcripts and proof of eligibility.
