The Ministry of Lands and Housing, in a bid to address the housing needs of Kenyans, has opened the doors for the public to acquire homes through the government’s affordable housing initiative in Bondeni, Nakuru County.
An official advertisement released on Tuesday urges prospective buyers to visit the project site for a firsthand view of the ready-to-occupy units. Interested individuals are then directed to register on the Boma Yangu Portal (https://www.bomayangu.go.ke/) to initiate the purchase of their preferred units.
According to the ministry’s announcement, two-bedroom units spanning 64 square meters are priced at Sh3.15 million, while three-bedroom units with an area of 85 square meters are available at Sh4.25 million.
The Ministry of Lands, Public Works, and Urban Development extends an open invitation, stating, “Interested members of the public are hereby invited to purchase ready units at the affordable housing project in Bondeni, Nakuru.”
For those who qualify, a rent-to-own home loan option is on the table, offering monthly rates of Sh16,997 for the two-bedroom units and Sh22,933 for the three-bedroom units.
This initiative is part of President William Ruto’s administration’s commitment to addressing housing challenges, specifically targeting the more than 6.5 million Kenyans residing in slums and informal settlements.
Court cases
The unveiling of the affordable housing projects in Nakuru follows a recent victory for President William Ruto, as the Court of Appeal granted permission to the government to continue collecting the controversial housing levy, albeit until January 26.
A panel of three judges maintained the status quo until the upcoming ruling date, where they will decide on Attorney General Justin Muturi’s application for further collection of the levy. The High Court had initially quashed the levy on November 28, citing discrimination. However, the judgment was suspended until January 10, allowing the government to pursue an appeal.
President Ruto, expressing frustration with court orders that he claimed were hindering his plans, pledged to defy the orders and proceed with the implementation of crucial projects. The affordable housing initiative in Bondeni, Nakuru, stands as a testament to the government’s determination to provide sustainable housing solutions for its citizens.
