The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has released results from Thursday’s by-elections held across 22 constituencies and wards, following a polling day marked by reports of disruptions in some areas.
In Kasipul Constituency—where ODM chief agent Peter Kaluma sustained head injuries during a clash at a polling station—returning officer Rebecca Abwaku declared Boyd Ongondo Were (ODM) the duly elected Member of the National Assembly after he garnered 16,819 votes.
Independent candidate Philip Nashon Aroko finished second with 8,476 votes. Ten candidates had been cleared to contest the seat.
In other races, the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) secured multiple ward victories, including Narok Township, Kariobangi North, and Kisa East.
In Kariobangi North Ward, David Wanyoike Warui won with 2,282 votes, followed by independent candidate John Kimanzi with 1,956 votes. ODM’s Majua Michael Ouma received 1,351 votes, while UDA’s Njoka Julius Maina obtained 955 votes.
DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua congratulated the party’s successful candidates, saying:“I offer congratulations to Douglas Masikonde, David Warui, and Dickson Okwiri Aduda for winning the Narok Township, Kariobangi North, and Kisa East wards, respectively.”
The IEBC indicated that most constituency tallies are complete, noting on its official X page that “Results are accessible to the public on the Commission’s portal.”
According to the Commission, Kariobangi North (Nairobi County) and Chewani Ward (Galole, Tana River County) each had the highest number of cleared candidates at 16, while Tembelio Ward (Moiben, Uasin Gishu County) had only one candidate.
