Former Mandera South Member of Parliament (MP), Adan Haji Ali Sheikh, is on the run after the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court issued an arrest order against him.

The court expected Haji to answer corruption charges related to a Sh51 million, allegedly misappropriated during his tenure as the County Executive Committee Member for Tourism in Kwale County between 2013 and 2017.

Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) accuses him of orchestrating fraudulent dealings through his hotel, Lotfa Resort Diani Limited, involving his wife and son as directors.

The charges include providing accommodation and conference services to the County Government at inflated costs without disclosing his conflict of interest.

”The suspect used his hotel facility called Lotfa Resort Diani Limited to trade with the County Government. The hotel, whose Directors were the suspect’s wife and son, provided accommodation and conference services to the County Government at exaggerated costs,” EACC said in a statement.

“He also never disclosed his private interest to the employer during the tendering and award process, thus engaging in a conflict of interest contrary to the law.”

With the Director of Public Prosecutions supporting EACC’s recommendations, the accused vanished just before his scheduled court appearance in December 2023, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant.

EACC, relentless in its pursuit, has registered the charge sheet in the Mombasa Anti-Corruption Court, summoning the suspect to appear on February 13, 2024.
