Many think Okiya Omtatah is a lawyer. Well, he is not.
Born in Busia County on November 30, 1964, Omtatah schooled attended St. Pauls’ Secondary School for Form 1 and 2. It is there that he met a missionary priest who greatly influenced his convictions, which have lasted to date. He later joined St. Peters School in Mukumu in 1981 for his Form 3 and 4 where he did and passed his O and A levels graduating in 1983.
He secured admission at University of Nairobi for a Bachelor of Commerce degree but changed his mind and joined St. Augustine in Mabanga, Bungoma where he did a Diploma in Philosophy. While there, he was diagnosed with grand mal after he suffered from a fatal injury, almost becoming mad.
The activist later joined Kenya Polytechnic to pursue Mechanical and Automotive Engineering. He graduated two years later. It is then that he began his activism, something he has actively pursued his entire life.
To date, he has sued over 1,000 personalities and appeared in court more than any Kenyan, even the judges themselves.
In fact, his name is about to enter the Guinness Books of Records as the sole individual who has filed the highest number of cases in court. (
