Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has announced his resignation.
The declaration was made early Monday during a meeting with senior county staff at a hotel in Eldoret, in the presence of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii.
Barorot’s resignation comes shortly after he denied any plans to leave office. Speculation arose when he missed President Ruto’s event for Eldoret’s City status.
The deputy governor had dismissed the resignation reports as mere rumors but did not explain his absence from the significant city event.
There had been ongoing speculation about his working relationship with Governor Bii. However, two weeks ago, during a prayer meeting at the county headquarters, Governor Bii addressed the issue, stating that Barorot was on leave.
“Sorry I forgot to tell you that our Deputy Governor Engineer Barorot is not with us here because he is on leave, but we are together in all this,” Governor Bii had said.
Barorot missed almost all preparations for Eldoret’s elevation to City status, except for one occasion when he praised the media’s role in marketing the new city.
It has since emerged that the resignation is due to a job opportunity with an international organization, which he is set to begin on September 1.
“To be a CEO of an international firm is a blessing to Uasin Gishu,” Governor Bii said.
