Retired Chief Justice David Maraga has confirmed that he will heed the call from Kenya’s youth to run for the presidency in 2027. He revealed that young people across the country have urged him to step into the political arena, citing his leadership qualities and exemplary past performance as key reasons for his candidacy.
Speaking at a consultative meeting in Nyamira on Monday, Maraga sought approval from local opinion leaders and well-known political figures, who have promised their unwavering support for his presidential bid. The meeting marked the first of many county hall consultations, with Maraga intending to visit all 47 counties to build the necessary momentum for his campaign.
“This is our first county hall consultation meeting to beseech for your approval and blessing to be assured that you will rally behind me till the D-day in 2027. We will be conducting similar meetings in all the 47 counties and soon we will put in place functional structures to enable us fulfil all the requirements expected of one to run for a political seat in this country,” he said.
Maraga further promised that a team of professionals is already working diligently to establish a political party, with the eventual goal of launching his political manifesto.
“I have a formidable team of professionals who are working round the clock to ensure that we create and name a political party and later at the fullness of time do a grand launch of my political manifesto for Kenyans to know my political blueprint and its execution strategy to redeem and transform our country,” he added.
The former CJ didn’t hold back in addressing the pressing issues facing Kenya today, particularly the failures of the current leadership in addressing corruption, poor healthcare, and the overall economic crisis. He stressed that these systemic problems had created unbearable living conditions for many Kenyans.
“I need your prayers, good will and genuine support. Our country is in a great crisis which needs an honest, just, bold and fearless leader to help it come out of the current crisis which we have been plunged into by poor leadership,” said Maraga, appealing to the citizens for their backing.
He urged Nyamira residents to treat all political candidates with respect, regardless of their party affiliation, and to allow them to present their manifestos peacefully.
“Give political aspirants ample time to present their political manifestos knowing very well that you have the freedom to choose who you will vote for during the D-day,” the former CJ advised.
Maraga also took the opportunity to encourage the youth of Kenya to register as voters and ensure they have national ID cards when the time for voter registration arrives.
“I appeal to youths to ensure that they have applied for national ID cards and registered as voters when the time shall be announced to be able to make a political decision of voting him as Kenya’s president in 2027,” he said.
