Three suspects arrested by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in connection to the murder of an IEBC official Aisha Abubakar are set to be charged on Tuesday at the Shanzu Law Courts.
DCI detectives arrested the trio on Monday, and recovered several crucial exhibits.
“Isa Omari, Brian Shikuku Mudari and Bryan Templer Oyare were flushed from their hideouts in separate but coordinated operations within the coastal region, following 7 days of rigorous manhunt for perpetrators of the 3 am daring robbery,” said DCI in a statement posted on their verified X account (formerly Twitter).
On the fateful morning, the deceased and her son were awoken from their sleep by an unestablished number of home invaders, who forced entry into the abode by cutting the grills of the kitchen window.
Armed with crude weapons, the assailants knocked the son out before stabbing the homeowner severally amidst desperate pleas not to take her dear life.
“As she bled her life out, the cold-blooded attackers made away with several valuables including two Samsung phones, an iPad, a 65″ TV set, a sound system, and ATM cards whose PINs they had demanded,” read the DCI statement.
Good Samaritans who heard the commotion and thronged the scene made frantic efforts to save her life by rushing her to Premier Hospital in Nyali, but she was declared dead on arrival.
DCI Kisauni took over the investigation, backed up by the Operation Support Unit (OSU) and Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau hawkshaws.
After a meticulous forensic analysis, the three suspects were arrested and one of the stolen phones belonging to the deceased’s son and other crucial exhibits were recovered.
DCI continues with the investigation to establish the motive of the killing and robbery.
IEBC CEO Marjan Hussein had condoled the family of Ms Aisha and urged the security agencies to expedite investigations on the heinous act and apprehend her killers.
“Ms Aisha joined the commission in 2012 as a Constituency Elections Coordinator for Nyali and was first deployed to Kilifi South. She has diligently served the Commission and risen through the ranks to the position of Acting County Elections Manager-Kilifi,” said the CEO.
The deceased was described as a well-trained officer who performed her duties with utmost honesty, integrity and dedication.
