Silas Ochieng’ Apollo, a reporter with The Nairobi Law Monthly (TNLM) who was struck by a speeding motorbike in Thindigua on Kiambu Road five days ago, died from a severe head injury caused by blunt force trauma, a postmortem report has revealed.
A government pathologist who requested anonymity confirmed that he also suffered two broken ribs, and bruises on the fingers, hands, chest and legs.
“The body shows no internal bleeding,” the pathologist noted. “The rib fractures are present, but the major organs are untouched. It appears he either hit his head on a hard surface or was struck — these kinds of injuries can occur even in car accidents.”
Ochieng’s journey with the TNLM began in February 2023 after leaving Nation Media Group. He has been in the profession for more than a decade and has earned a name for himself as a serious current affairs scribe and investigator of critical issues in society.
Umash Funeral Services is scheduled to collect his remains from City Mortuary for preparation and embalming.
The body will then be transported to Kabuoro sub-location in Rongo, Migori County, where the burial will take place. The family will announce the burial date shortly.
“A morgue near home is more suited. Umash will collect the body from here and then we will sit as a family and communicate funeral arrangements in due course,” Apollo Agutu, the late’s dad, said.
