Ida Odinga has finally dismissed allegations surrounding her husband Raila Odinga’s health, putting to rest the widespread rumours that had sparked concern across the country.
Speaking in Migori on Tuesday, she dismissed the widespread speculation that the veteran politician was seriously ill. Instead, she explained that Raila had travelled abroad simply to rest.
“If his condition were truly as serious as they say, I would have taken him to a hospital here in Migori for treatment,” Ida said firmly, expressing surprise at how people outside the family seem to know more about his health than those closest to him.
“How can someone who doesn’t live with him claim to know his health status, while I, who stay with him, am unaware of any issues? What I’m telling you is the truth: Baba is okay.”

Her words come amid contradictory reports about Raila’s condition. Just days earlier, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, a former personal aide to the former Prime Minister, called on Kenyans to unite in prayer for his recovery.
Addressing a fundraising event in Rang’ala, Siaya County, Mr Omondi urged Christians nationwide: “I appeal to all Christians of all denominations across the Republic of Kenya to say a special prayer for our leader, Raila Odinga, for a quick recovery, that he may regain his full health and strength. As he recuperates in hospital, we hold him dearly in our thoughts and prayers.”
While speculation continues, Ida’s message remains clear—her husband is well and resting. “Baba is okay,” she reassured the public, urging calm amidst the rumours.
