A British terror suspect associated with the infamous “White Widow” Samantha Lewthwaite has been deported from Kenya to the UK after completing his sentence.

Jermaine Grant, 41, from London, was flown to Britain on Thursday accompanied by Kenyan officials before being taken into custody upon arrival.

Grant had already been serving a prison sentence in Mombasa where he was convicted of possessing bomb-making materials and using forged documents to gain Kenyan citizenship.

His arrest followed a raid that uncovered explosives and related material in a flat he shared with wanted woman Lewthwaite.

She has been on the run for over a decade, and her late husband, Germaine Lindsay, was one of the four suicide bombers in the 2005 London bombings.

In 2019 he was convicted of having bomb-making materials but cleared of conspiracy in relation to an alleged plot targeting hotels popular with foreign tourists.

His total sentence included a nine-year term for document forgery and a subsequent four-year term for the explosives charges.

A Kenyan high court ruled that he should be deported upon the end of his sentencing, but delays occurred due to discrepancies regarding calculations for the date of release.

A source at Mombasa prison said Grant’s sentence ended on August 7.

“We can confirm that an individual was deported to the UK following the completion of a criminal sentence in Kenya,” a government official said.

The Metropolitan Police said the suspect was arrested under Section 17 of the Terrorism Act for failing to comply with notification requirements

The police added that the arrest was made in connection with his recall to prison for breaching licence conditions relating to a previous conviction.

“He was arrested at Heathrow airport as he arrived back in the UK on a flight from Kenya. The man’s licence conditions were revoked in August 2005 following the initial breach,” a Met Police spokesman said.

Grant has been further detained for being unlawfully at large and is suspected of being a member of the terror organization Al-Shabaab.

He remains in police custody.
