The Nairobi Law Monthly September Edition

He was charged with soliciting a Sh130,000 bribe from a private developer to allow her to continue developing her plot in his ward.

Njiru, who also serves as a UDA MCA for Hospital ward, denied the charges before Thika Chief Magistrate Atiang Mitullah and was released on a Sh1 million bond or Sh500,000 cash bail.

He was charged with soliciting the financial advantage on May 29, 2023, at Africana Hotel in Thika town, within Kiambu County. It was alleged that, as a public official and MCA for Hospital ward, he requested Sh130,000 from Anna Nduta Wanjiru with the intention of allowing her to continue developing her plot.

Following a request from the Director of Public Prosecutions, the magistrate ordered Njiru to deposit his passport at the court and not to contact witnesses in the case.

The case is set to be mentioned on May 10, with the hearing scheduled for July 17, 2024.
