Wiper Party Leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, has been placed under house arrest, the Azimio la Umoja Coalition has claimed, a move intended to prevent him from participating in the ongoing anti-government demonstrations.

National Assembly Minority Leader and Ugunja MP, Opiyo Wandayi, while addressing the media on Friday, July 21, lamented what he referred to as a “witch hunt” orchestrated by the State. According to Wandayi, the government’s aim was to not only detain Musyoka but also to frustrate other opposition leaders during the ongoing protests that commenced on Wednesday, July 19.

For the past two days, Kalonzo Musyoka has allegedly been unable to leave his home, according to Wandayi, who spoke to journalists stationed outside the politician’s Karen residence. Jubilee Party Secretary-General, Jeremiah Kioni, accompanied Wandayi in demanding access to Kalonzo.

In an intriguing development, on the same Friday, media reports alleged that Azimio leader Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka held a private meeting with a delegation of diplomats at his Karen residence in Nairobi.

While the specific agenda of the closed-door meeting has not been disclosed, it is believed to be linked to the growing concerns expressed by foreign nations and organizations regarding the escalating violence and loss of lives during the countrywide anti-government protests led by the Azimio coalition.

Amid the escalating situation, envoys from the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, and nine other countries jointly issued a statement, urging both the Azimio coalition and the government to seek peaceful resolutions to their differences. The statement underscores the international community’s growing apprehension over the unrest and its potential implications for the country’s stability.

Raila dismissed the reports of any meeting with foreign envoys, stating that he has been under the weather and recuperating at his home.

”I am currently under the weather, battling a strong strain of flu, hence keeping off public engagements and all meetings. I have therefore held no meeting with any envoys as reported by some media outlets. Representatives of our coalition Hon Opiyo Wandayi and Hon Jeremiah Kioni have today visited Hon Kalonzo Musyoka following his ongoing house arrest and detention,” Odinga said.
