Elders from Cheboror in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, have strongly condemned and distanced themselves from a group of youths who heckled leaders during President William Ruto’s development tour of the North Rift.
The elders described the attempt by some leaders to outshine others in the presence of President William Ruto, while he was in his own political backyard, as unfortunate and uncalled for.
Speaking at Cheboror in Tarakwa, where the President held a rally on Friday after launching several projects, the residents, led by Stanley Biwot Tololo, Paul Kurgat Tabora, and Margaret Kurgat, condemned regional leaders who they allege sponsored the acts of lawlessness and political intolerance.
They criticised the leaders, claiming they had hired the youths to fuel political animosity between various factions.
The residents have called on investigative agencies to look into the matter and take action against any leaders who may have financed the youths to heckle their political opponents in the presence of the President.
“We want to ask our politicians to understand the power of humility and collaboration for a prosperous society. We discourage unnecessary competition and acts of trying to outdo others,” Tololo explained.
“Such acts are barbaric, uncivilised, uncultured, and uncalled for among elected leaders. Our youths were not part of that, and we would like to encourage our leaders to work together as the only way of strengthening the community, uplifting one another, and promoting a unified vision for the future,” Kurgat said.
They also issued an apology to the Head of State for the embarrassing incident, while appreciating him for delivering various development projects in the area.
