Like Donald Trump, Miguna Miguna is on tape accusing a female politician of “only looking for sponsors”, to mean exchanging money for sexual advances.
While Trump excused his comments as “locker room talk”, Miguna blasted newsmen for “secretly recording” him. Both dismissed the recordings as misrepresentations of their true selves.
By his own confession, Trump believes that he can get away with anything. So too does Miguna, who challenges his victims to sue saying that nothing can happen to him.
They also share a love for social media. But while for Trump this somehow translated to votes, pundits remain sceptical of Miguna’s chances of enjoying a similar success. Trump currently has 30 million followers on Twitter, up from the 9 million who followed him earlier in his campaign. Miguna meanwhile boasts a paltry 50,000 followers, which is barely an appreciable fraction of total city votes. In the unlikely scenario those followers all voted for him, Miguna still would not win.
Both men have been accused of using their twitter handles to spew hate, defamation and to settle personal scores. Recently, in a series of tweets, Miguna picked on Kirubi who on a talk show had asked who Miguna “is”. Angered, Miguna immediately tweeted:
“I am told that Kirubi, a functionally illiterate paedophile and GRAND LOOTER of Kenatco and Uchumi, has disrespected me on TV”
In another tweet, he says:
“Kirubi, I’m not a cowardly Kenyan. You can’t intimidate, threaten or dazzle me with your empty head and tribalism. Don’t dare!”
On his part, Trump fired FBI director then tweeted:
“Comey lost the confidence of almost everyone in Washington, Republicans and Democrats alike. When things calm down”
Elsewhere…“Michael Flynn, Gen. Flynn, is a wonderful man. I think he has been treated very, very unfairly by the media, as I call it, the fake media in many cases. And I think it’s really a sad thing that he was treated so badly,” says Trump, speaking of his former national security adviser.”
Trump said in yet another media tirade.
Fake media and cartel media are the Trump and Miguna’s favourite lines respectively. A day hardly passes by without them trolling media in one form or another. Ironically, neither of them passes an invite to a media interview.
In these people’s worlds, everyone else is a fool but for them and those who agree with them. Trump even says that he is too smart for intelligence briefings. Miguna on the other hand never misses an opportunity to remind everyone of how “I was top of my class, I was best in literature and best in religious education and I manage to get three principals, and a subsidiary…”
While they may be rash and abrasive, amongst their grand plans of socio-economic transformation are also, admittedly, some really good ideas. Unfortunately before now, none of them had held political office. It may well be that the task is not as easy as Trump has found out.
