Standard Chartered bank has appointed Bongiwe Gangeni as its new head of Consumer, Private and Business Banking (CPBB) for Africa, the Middle East, and Europe.

The skilled banker is expected to take up the mantle in March 2022, and will be based in Dubai. Ms Gangeni previously served as a member of Absa bank’s Group executive committee for the last 14 years. She was also the deputy CEO for retail and business banking and the head of relationship banking.

Before joining the banking sector, she was a consultant with Accenture, and also practiced as a pharmacist. She holds a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa and a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School.

She also holds a Master’s in Business Administration from the University of Pretoria’s Gordon Institute of Business Science and has completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard Business School.

According to Judy Hsu, Standard Chartered CEO of CPBB, she brings a deep understanding of the region which is invaluable as the bank continues to innovate and accelerate its digital transformation.

Whether her appointment will be pertinent in the bank’s ability to provide further excellence in consumer, private, and business banking arms and strengthen relationships with existing and potential clients, remains to be seen.
