Popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, better known as Mr Ibu, died on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at a hospital in Lagos over health issues.

The actor’s family issued an update in December 2023, saying his leg had to be amputated because of constant clotting of blood, and other underlying health conditions.

“The first amputation didn’t completely correct his health predicament so the doctors had to go ahead to amputate the same leg further to ensure we didn’t lose him,” the statement said

It added: “Daddy’s cause of sickness is also not diabetes but he’s had constant clotting of the blood in his leg (diseased blood vessels) and other health challenges posing risk to his life, therefore the need for the amputation.”

In 2022, the family noted, Ibu was hospitalized in Abuja where he claimed that he had been poisoned during his visit to Nkanu West, Enugu.

“My illness was perpetrated by people that hate me. They did what they did to me. Later, I was taken to the hospital. The doctors are prophets. So, they went into my system and they told me what was wrong and what they were going to do,” he told the Vanguard Newspaper at the time.
