Nyandarua County is mourning the sudden death of Beth Wahito, a nominated Member of the County Assembly (MCA), following a road accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway.

According to reports, Wahito died at around 11 p.m. on Saturday while heading home after attending an official county government committee meeting in Naivasha. Her private vehicle was struck by a bus near the Naivasha–Kinangop junction at approximately 1 a.m.

President William Ruto joined in mourning Beth Wahito. In a statement issued on Sunday, 22 June 2025, the Head of State described the deceased as a solid grassroots mobiliser and a steadfast supporter of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).

“We join the family and the people of Nyandarua County in mourning the passing of Mheshimiwa Beth Wahito,” he said.

Wahito was among the pioneer women leaders in Nyandarua. She began her public service as a councillor in the now-defunct Nyandarua County Council, later serving as a specially elected MCA in both the first and the current (third) Nyandarua County Assembly.

Nyandarua County Assembly Speaker, Wachira Waiganjo, also expressed deep sorrow over her passing.

“We honour Hon. Wahito’s life of service and her unmatched courage. May her soul rest in eternal peace. On behalf of the Nyandarua County Assembly family, I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the people of Njabini Kiburu and Kinangop,” he said in a statement.
