Moses Marite, once the trusted manager of Mugithi star Samidoh, orchestrated a fraudulent scheme, swindling clubs out of millions of shillings by exploiting his position and using the singer’s name to secure fake bookings, it has now emerged.

Marite, who had managed Samidoh for five years, is alleged to have collected advance booking payments from several clubs, promising Samidoh’s performance without informing the artist.

The venues, believing they had secured exclusive deals, paid substantial amounts — some as high as Sh100,000 — only for the performances to never materialise.

One such incident occurred at Pcash Lounge in Sagana, where Marite allegedly pocketed a Sh100,000 deposit for a Samidoh performance, despite the artist having no knowledge of the booking.

This triggered a series of complaints and investigations, which also revealed how Marite had executed the scheme at various venues.

The fraudulent dealings by Marite came to light in September after Samidoh intervened.

In a statement, Samidoh publicly distanced himself from Marite and declared him unauthorized to transact any business on his behalf.

“Take notice that Samidoh Entertainment has terminated the services of Moses Kimani Marite… He is not authorised to transact any business, negotiate, or enter into any contract on behalf of Samidoh,” the statement read in part.

The fallout between Marite and Samidoh had been brewing for months. Marite was dismissed in September after Samidoh discovered the extent of the fraud.

The singer’s management had been unaware of the numerous deposits Marite had accepted from clubs, and when the truth came to light, the decision to sever ties was swift.

Marite was later arrested and charged with fraud. He was arraigned at the Baricho Magistrate’s Court on 22 October, where he pleaded guilty to the charges.

He was released on a cash bail of Sh100,000, which was contributed by family and friends.

Upon his release from police custody, Marite immediately went into hiding, only to resurface last week following the passing of his father, Kimani Marite.
