Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi has appointed new chief executives to three major institutions in the energy sector, with the changes taking effect immediately.
CPA Tom Odhiambo Imbo has been appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO), taking charge of the State-owned electricity transmission company.
Stephen Kipsang Busieney will head the Geothermal Development Company (GDC) as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, while Engineer Edward Mwirigi Kinyua has been appointed Director General of the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA).
The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum said the appointments followed recruitment processes conducted by the boards of the three institutions in accordance with applicable laws and human resource guidelines.

“The appointments, which are to take effect immediately, are a culmination of rigorous recruitment processes undertaken in accordance with the applicable laws and relevant human resource guidelines by the respective Boards of Directors of KETRACO, GDC and EPRA,” the statement reads.
The ministry said the appointments were made under the State Corporations Act, Companies Act and Energy Act.
Wandayi congratulated the three appointees and expressed confidence in their ability to lead the institutions as the Government implements its plans for the energy and petroleum sector.
The changes bring new leadership to three institutions with distinct roles in the sector, covering electricity transmission, geothermal energy development and regulation of the energy and petroleum industries.
KETRACO is responsible for developing and maintaining Kenya’s high-voltage electricity transmission infrastructure, while GDC focuses on the development of the country’s geothermal resources. EPRA regulates the electricity, petroleum and renewable energy sectors.
