Humphrey Wattanga, the outgoing Commissioner General of the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), has been nominated for appointment as Kenya’s new High Commissioner to South Africa, following the announcement of his departure on Wednesday.
KRA Board Chair Ndiritu Muriithi confirmed that Wattanga had begun his terminal leave with immediate effect. Later that evening, President William Ruto made the nomination, as indicated in a notification of presidential action issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei.
In the same announcement, President Ruto also nominated Dr. Julius Murori Mbijiwe as Ambassador to the Vatican. Additionally, Ambassadors Irene Maswan and Judy Muthoni Njau were nominated as deputy envoys to the United Kingdom and Belgium, respectively.
“These postings arise from the regular cycle of succession within Kenya’s missions abroad and aim to support the expansion of the nation’s diplomatic footprint,” Koskei stated.
He added, “In fulfillment of the constitutional imperatives regarding the appointment of State officers, His Excellency the President has transmitted the nominations to the National Assembly for consideration. This now paves the way for the nominees to be vetted and either approved or rejected by Parliament.”
