Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been detained by police in Ruiga, Central Imenti, following a chaotic turn of events during her Okolea outreach program.
Mwangaza, confirming her arrest, expressed frustration with the authorities for not adhering to proper legal procedures after detaining her.
While speaking to journalists, she alleged that police officers were being exploited to disrupt the implementation of the outreach program.
The governor had previously announced her plan to distribute cows to needy families as part of the Okolea initiative.
The Okolea outreach program, slated for Kinjo village in Imenti Central, had been banned by Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki in the previous month.
CS Kindiki issued a stern warning to Mwangaza against defying the ban, emphasizing that politicians should not exploit vulnerable individuals for political gain.
He made it clear that he would not tolerate the use of violence or the provocation of violence for political purposes, referring to the recent disturbances in Igembe South involving Azimio protesters.
CS Kindiki emphasized that political leaders should employ peaceful means to promote their ideas and manifestos rather than resorting to incitement.
