The Turkana County Government, in collaboration with GIZ, has engaged Koxcloud Digital, a local software development company, to set up an energy database portal that will enable investors and partners to remotely access energy data pertaining to the county.
The Turkana County Energy Database aims to serve as a one-stop-shop for all energy-related data and available resources within the county.
According to the Director for Energy and Petroleum, Jackson Lojore, the platform will tackle the lack of data that is currently impeding decision-making processes within the energy sector.
“As a County, we do not have enough and orderly arranged data on what resources are available, their distribution or utilisation patterns. Ideally, we have been working with very limited information. This has accounted for slow growth within the sector,” Mr Lojore said.

Wilfred Ayieko, the team leader at Koxcloud Digital, emphasised the need for a consolidated database for stakeholders within the energy sector, particularly in facilitating critical decision-making processes.
Mr Ayieko called for the adoption of digital and dynamic software to allow for the inclusion of all relevant variables.
The platform is expected to give real-time reports and status of interventions by stakeholders in the sector to avoid duplication of efforts.
“In a county where resources such as solar, geothermal, hydropower, biomass and wind energy are abundant, there is need to coordinate sector partners’ involvement through data informed evidence. This technology will assist us in achieving that goal,” added Mr Lojore.
