The Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI), Mohammed Amin, has clarified that activist Ndiang’ui Kinyagia is not in police custody. Speaking to the press outside DCI headquarters, Amin stated that Ndiang’ui is a person of interest following content he posted on his social media platforms, which Amin described as “very inflammatory material.”
Amin further urged Ndiang’ui to present himself to the authorities.
“Ndiang’ui Kinyagia is not in the custody of the National Police Service. He is a person of interest to us, and wherever he is, I urge him to surrender at the nearest police station,” said Amin.
The DCI boss also confirmed that officers conducted a search at Ndiang’ui’s residence and recovered several electronic items.
“Unfortunately, he was not in his apartment. We conducted a search and recovered an assortment of electronic gadgets that we believe will be useful in our investigations. An inventory was taken and countersigned by the caretaker of the apartment complex,” Amin said.
This clarification comes after the High Court ordered Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja and DCI Director Mohammed Amin to produce the missing blogger in court. Failure to comply could result in the officials being summoned.
Ndiang’ui Kinyagia has been missing since 21 June 2025, after armed individuals believed to be DCI officers stormed his residence in Kinoo, Kikuyu. He is associated with an X (formerly Twitter) account under the handle Daguinn Dd. His family suspects his disappearance may be linked to a viral post he shared on 19 June, which included a detailed itinerary for the planned protests on 25 June.
Since his disappearance, human rights groups and members of the public have called on the authorities to either release him or formally charge him. His whereabouts remain unknown.
