Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku locked the gates on late-arriving staff Monday, June 23, 2025, at the Rift Valley regional government offices in Nakuru.
By 8:00 a.m., CS Ruku had already arrived for an impromptu inspection of service delivery across public offices. However, many workers had yet to report to duty or were still trickling in. In response, the Cabinet Secretary ordered the gates closed.
“We are here to serve the people of Kenya. That duty starts with discipline and timekeeping,” he said firmly.
CS Ruku assured staff that the government was working to address concerns raised by public servants, including delayed promotions.
His visit comes amid a renewed push by the government to decentralise services through the expansion of Huduma Centres — one-stop service points — to more counties, aimed at ensuring faster and more efficient public service delivery.
Ruku acknowledged that public servants face ongoing challenges, particularly around promotions and limited career progression. He said the ministry was actively addressing these issues with the goal of building a fairer and more motivated workforce.
On Sunday, CS Ruku urged public servants to remain committed and serve all Kenyans equally, without fear or favour.
“As leaders, we must focus on service delivery. The time for politics will come in 2027 — for now, we must work,” he said.
