Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has alleged that a killer squad exists within the police service, formed under the orders of President William Ruto.
While speaking during a church service in Kirinyaga County, Gachagua claimed the squad is composed of highly trained individuals, and that its formation was endorsed by the National Intelligence Service (NIS), led by Noordin Haji.
Gachagua linked the squad to the recent killing of social media influencer Albert Ojwang.
“This issue is just a tip of the iceberg. Hundreds of young people have been tortured to death by a special squad set up on the instruction of William Ruto and seconded to NIS,” he said. “They have been trained in abductions, torture, killings, and cover-ups.”

He added that Ojwang’s death was one of many, asserting that countless Kenyans have died untimely deaths at the hands of the alleged unit. Gachagua directly blamed President Ruto and urged Kenyans to hold him accountable.
“William Ruto cannot run away from these deaths. He is responsible, and Kenyans will punish him for that,” he said.
Gachagua’s remarks come amid mounting controversy surrounding the death of Albert Ojwang in police custody. The sequence of events, as detailed under oath by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Director Amin Mohamed, indicates that Ojwang was found unconscious in his cell at 01:39 a.m. on 8 June.
However, CCTV footage from the hospital shows that a police vehicle carrying Ojwang entered the hospital compound at 1:35 a.m., and he remained inside the vehicle for 24 minutes before receiving any medical attention.
A report from the hospital confirmed that Ojwang was brought in dead, with his body cold and unresponsive. His face was swollen, and a visible cut was noted at the back of his head.
