US President Joe Biden has announced he will not seek re-election in the November 2024 election, stating it’s “in the best interest of my party and the country.”
In a letter posted to his social media account, on July 21, President Biden said it had been the greatest honour of his life to serve as the American president.
“And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling the duties as President for the remainder of my term”.
He thanked his Vice President, Kamala Harris, terming her an ‘extraordinary partner’ and endorsed her as the Democratic nominee in his place.
“Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year,” he said on X.
