A 32-year-old man from Kanduri Village, Ithanga Kakuzi Sub-County, has been fined Sh100,000 by a Kenol court or will serve eight months in prison after pleading guilty to the malicious damage of property.
The property, worth Sh40,000, belongs to his elder brother, Samuel Irungu.
According to Prosecutor Peris Gathuu, the accused, Cyrus Mwangi Wangari, arrived home on 8 March at 5:30 p.m. in a furious state and, without provocation, began insulting his mother.
He also threatened to beat her, claiming that she owed him money.
Fearing for his mother’s safety, Irungu, the brother, tried to intervene and restrain the accused, but this only escalated the situation further.
The court heard that, at this point, the accused grabbed a hammer and began vandalising his brother’s car, a Suzuki Swift (registration KCZ 084M), which had been parked outside the house.
He smashed the windscreen, broke the back right door, and shattered a window, causing extensive damage.
Fearing further violence, the brother locked his mother and other family members inside the house and rushed to report the matter at Ithanga Police Station.
The officers quickly moved in and arrested the accused, who was later arraigned before Resident Magistrate Jackinda Renna.
The prosecution presented four pictures of the damage as evidence against the accused, who pleaded guilty to the charges.
He was fined Sh100,000 or will serve eight months in prison, with the right to appeal within 14 days.
