Embu Governor Cecily Mbarire has denied involvement in the controversial acquisition of a Sh2 billion piece of land in Nairobi as reported in the Sunday Nation.

The Nairobi Law Monthly September Edition

In a press statement on Sunday, the governor said her only involvement was that she placed a call to Lands PS, Nixon Korir, asking him to hear out one of the parties to enable him make a balanced decision on the matter.

Ms Mbarire, who is also the UDA Party Chairperson, said she called the PS asking him to hear Mr Davis Chelogoi out before reaching a determination on the case.

Ms Mbarire said the report carried in the paper’s front page under the headline “Two governors caught up in Sh2bn land row” complete with her mugshot and that of Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, is misleading the public.

“In its own words, the Sunday Nation corroborates my position that I did reach out to Mr Nixon Korir, the PS for Lands, a few months ago asking if he could give Mr Chelogoi an audience on the same”, she said.

Mr Chelogoi, a former Nairobi Provincial Commissioner, is accused of grabbing the land in the lush Loresho neighbourhood of Nairobi.

Ms Mbarire, however, stated that in spite of the headline putting her in the mix, the full report carried on pages 6 and 7 of the newspaper did not demonstrate how she was “caught up” in the land matter.

She further stated that she was not one of the parties in the case and that the concerned parties are in court.

Ms Mbarire demanded a retraction and apology from the newspaper.
