The National Assembly is expected to hold a special sitting on Friday, a day after the Senate concludes the ongoing impeachment against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

The House, in a notice issued on Tuesday, said that it had approved a motion to hold a special session to among other things, discuss priority business and other mediated Bills.

According to the notice issued by the House, MPs will hold two special sessions in the morning and afternoon.

The decision to hold the session, which is set to commence soon after the conclusion of the ongoing impeachment of DP Gachagua, was approved following a motion by Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro.

The House said that following the approval of the motion by a majority of the members, it had resolved to alter its calendar to hold Sittings on Friday October 18, 2024.

The session will commence at 9:30 am for the morning sitting and 2:30 pm for the afternoon sitting, to consider priority business, including mediated Bills.

“That pursuant to the provisions of Standing Orders 28 (4) (Calendar of the House) and 30 (3)(c) (Hours of Meeting), this House resolves to commence the short recess on Tuesday October 22, 2024 and hold sittings on Friday October 18, 2024, commencing at 9:30 am for the morning sitting and 2:30 pm for the afternoon sitting, for the purpose of considering business, including mediated Bills,” the House said.

The motion was moved by Osoro and seconded by Navakholo MP Emmanuel Wangwe.

“The rationale for this sitting is for the House to consider priority business including Bills in mediation specifically, the Sugar Bill (2022), Water Bill (2023), Divisions of Revenue (Amendment) Bill (2024), National Rating Bill (2023) and a number of Private Members Bills which are at risk of lapsing,” Osoro said.
